Optimize your use of Utilities

Utilities provide useful information about streams in your flowsheet. However sometimes utilities are time consuming in their execution. So, if if you have a flowsheet with recycles or adjusts, you'd better avoid these being executed every time you go through your recycle or adjust loops. So how do you do that?

Open up the HYSYS workbook

In the menus, select Workbook / Setup

Add a new page and select as a type simply the general Utility entry

The list of variables doesn't contain what we want, so remove all variables

Click Add and add the Calc Level variable

We are done here

Go to the workbook and set all the calc levels of all utilities equal to 1e6 or so

This will ensure that utilities are executed as late as possible in the execution sequence
